A short 'photofilm' piece based on still images and sound to showcase the work of carpenter Dougal Black. The brief was simple: to create a short promotional piece that would showcase Dougal's skills but also give a sense of his commitment to his work. Dougal wanted the images to be 'spare' and place clear emphasis on the accuracy and precision he takes pride in. The resulting film is short, but to the point, and met Dougal's brief to his satisfaction.

This is a short stills-based 'photofilm' about fishing, friendship, and a shed. Beside the River Ness in Inverness, Scotland, sits a small shed, near a fishing pool located only a stones throw from the city centre. But the shed is a focal point for the anglers who gather daily during (and after) the fishing season, to swap tall tales, tease each other, and make long-lasting friendships. They welcome strangers, anglers and non-anglers alike, share stories, laughs, fun and the odd cup of tea.

A short video-based film showing the Clootie Well on the Black Isle in Scotland. People visit the well to use the spring water and leave pieces of cloth on the surrounding trees. I am fascinated by the ways that people affect the environment, but also by the ways that the environment can affect people. This piece is a work in progress and will eventually contain some sound recordings of visitors to the well speaking, explaining why they come, what they feel there, and how it has affected their lives.

A stills-based piece about a 1/10th scale model of The Titanic which has been built by local man Stan Fraser in the back garden of his home in Inverness in the Scottish Highlands. The vessel is 90 feet long and very impressive! But this is a deeply personal story, about family, and pride in the workmanship of others.

A stills-based film about the Lairg Lamb Sale, which is the biggest one-day sale in Europe. Up to 30,000 animals go through the auction ring in the day, with several auctioneers working non-stop. It is an important economic event and because many hill farmers work in remote locations it is also an opportunity for old friends to meet up, and new acquaintances to be made.

A stills-based film about a family who produce free-range eggs. This was undertaken as the main production on a training course I attended for Duckrabbit in Devon, co-working with photographers Carli Lessof and Daisy Atkin. We shared the photography tasks and sound recording, and collaborated on the final production. It is the story of a family committed to each other and the things that too often go unspoken.

An insight into just some of the preparations photographers go through to get their shots. Watch the masterful joinery skills employed by Peter Cairns building his aerial osprey hide - awesome craftsmanship!!! Not.

A stills-based short produced for photographer colleague Peter Cairns. The result speaks for itself!

This is an A/V piece I put together for the Wild Wonders of Europe environmental communication project using images from some of Europe's finest nature photographers. It was delivered to millions of people throughout Europe.
